Those who watched All My Children, an ABC daytime soap that ran from 1970 to 2011 before being canceled by the network, will soon see a familiar face on General Hospital. Before its run once again ended, it was briefly revived in 2013 as a web series.
Starting on July 12, the show’s well-known attorney Jackson Montgomery will enter Port Charles. Although the specific plot of his appearance has not been revealed, Deadline described it as a “stint,” which suggests that he will not be around for very long. What else do we know? Read on.
The Beloved Jackson Montgomery: A Familiar Face on “General Hospital”
Walt Willey is the actor who is portraying the role. He started playing the part in 1987 and continued to do so until All My Children was canceled in 2011. He played a lawyer in Pine Valley who had previously served as the district attorney.
Erica Kane, played by Susan Lucci, had been married before and had been in love with Jackson for a very long time. Additionally, Laurel Banning’s daughter Lily and a teenager named Reggie Porter are both adopted by him; he was also married to Laurel Banning. Jackson and Mary Greenlee have a child together, who is known as Greenlee Smythe.
Jackson Montgomery has appeared on another soap opera on multiple occasions, including this one. A different ABC program, The City, featured him in 1996; however, it was a short-lived one, only airing from 1995 to 1997. It was a spin-off of the well-liked Loving, which aired for 12 years before being discontinued.
Although Jackson’s character is now more likely to be remembered for his adopted son, Reggie, than for his relationship with Erica Kane (Susan Lucci), who was his on-screen love interest.
When the part was recast, Michael B. Jordan (Creed III) took over for Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), who had previously played it. Reggie’s expected to travel with Jackson is a big doubt in our minds.
Who is Jackson Montgomery on General Hospital?
In Port Charles, the attorney has a wide range of options. Undoubtedly, one of the many criminals in the town needs legal counsel. And viewers are already making assumptions about the transplant’s romance as if Erica Kane will let some hussy from upstate New York win her man over!
The duration of Willey’s stay in Port Charles and his reasons for being there have not been disclosed. Our initial thought was that there might be a connection to Anna Devane (Finola Hughes). Jackson and Anna shared some private moments while Anna lived in Pine Valley for a while. It might have nothing to do with anything, but it would be a simple way to explain his presence.
What remains to be seen, though, is whether or not James Patrick Stuart, Cameron Mathison, and Michael E. Knight, fellow All My Children alumni, will run into Willey.
When Tad, Ryan, and Will are revealed to be Martin, Drew, and Valentin, how bizarre will that be? To find out, we will have to watch General Hospital this summer!
