She was born on May 9, 1972. She followed Dee Dee Myers, who held the position during the Clinton administration, as the second female White House press secretary.

Her two paternal great-grandparents were immigrants from Italy. Southeast of Denver, in the suburb of Parker, she attended Ponderosa High School.

Perino received a bachelor’s degree in mass communications from Colorado State University-Pueblo, as well as minors in political science and Spanish.

She was a member of the university’s forensics team and employed by KTSC-TV, the Rocky Mountain PBS affiliate located on campus.

When they first met, Perino, who now co-anchors America’s Newsroom and co-hosts The Five on Fox News, was 25 years old and McMahon was 43. The couple owns a house in New Jersey and rents an apartment in New York City.

Perino served as George W. Bush’s press secretary from September 2007 until January 2009, when the president left office.

When the opportunity for the promotion presented itself, she told Deseret News that she intended to resign as deputy press secretary because she did not see any room for advancement.
